today emie and i were in line @ amy's ice cream
on south congress. i was unsure if the white haired
man standing behind us with some other people was david byrne
but the likeness was astounding and i couldn't stop wondering
for the next hour. why did he have the same "common person"
pink wristband that we were wearing? should i have tried to
make some kind of effort to talk to him or slyly catch a picture
of him ? too late now. well at least we were standing less than 3
feet away from him and i can say we breathed the same air. haha. |

here is some information on an event i'm putting together w/the coordination
of a person named cale from monkeywrench books:
what? film screening: the abortion diaries & teen mami

when? january 22nd, 7:30pm - 9pm
The Abortion Diaries is a documentary featuring 12 women who speak candidly about their experiences with abortion. The women are doctors, subway workers, artists, activists, military personnel, teachers and students; they are Black, Latina , Jewish and White; they are mothers or child-free; they range in age from 19 to 54. Their stories weave together with the filmmaker's diary entries to present a compelling, moving and at times surprisingly funny "dinner party" where the audience is invited to hear what women say behind closed doors about motherhood, medical technology, sex, spirituality, love, work and their own bodies.
Teen Mami is a documentary short about one girl's experience having
two children by age 16. This movie was not made to condemn teen mothers,
but to examine the origins of teen motherhood and debunk some cultural
stereotypes about young Latina mothers.

a rad(sounding)movie i just purchased a VHS of yesterday,

The Suckling (1990)
A horror movie in which an aborted fetus, flushed down the toilet of a whorehouse/abortionist house, gets in contact with toxic waste and becomes a monster. The fetus monster kills all the hookers, johns and abortionists. But the fetus monster spares his teenage mother, who was forced and tricked by her asshole boyfriend into having the abortion in the first place (he convinces the abortionist to slip her some drugs and perform the abortion while the girl is passed out). It jumps back into her womb, turning her into a zombie type. |

The Austin Asian Film Festival returns on November 3-6. It will be showcasing over 30 feature films, documentaries and short films this year from countries all over Asia (including, Bhutan, China, North and South Korea, India, Pakistan, Vietnam and more).
I was going to volunteer but realized I really don't have time. I will try to go to a few films though. Do you want to go w/me ? I've uploaded the schedule and program to my ftp. |
